Become a CTI Practionier
Care Through Touch Institute serves low-income and unhoused individuals across San Francisco by partnering with community-based organizations throughout the city. Our services are offered with no barriers to care, including no requirements for identification, insurance, or sobriety.
We are seeking massage therapists to join our community of service-oriented volunteers. Many massage therapists know the power of touch to comfort and support healing, yet the high cost of living in the Bay Area means that those who could benefit most from bodywork are often excluded. CTI addresses this gap by offering free, trauma-informed chair massage in shelters, drop-in centers, and other service sites as an act of compassion and social justice.
For newly certified therapists, volunteering with CTI offers meaningful, hands-on experience in trauma-informed care. For experienced practitioners, it provides an opportunity to reconnect with the intention to serve, free from financial pressure.
This work requires more than technical skill. Many of the people we serve have experienced significant trauma, and our settings can be dynamic and unpredictable. We prioritize the safety and well-being of both clients and volunteers, and we look for therapists who are compassionate, resilient, grounded, and adaptable.
If this work resonates with you, we invite you to reach out for more information. Volunteers are asked to commit to a two-hour shift every other week for 4–6 months, with the option to continue beyond that.
Volunteers must be CAMTC-certified massage therapists or current students in a CAMTC-approved program. Therapists with other bodywork backgrounds or out-of-state licenses will also be considered.
